VIETNAM’S TEA EXPORTS EXPECTED TO ACCELERATE IN THE SECOND HALF OF 2025 – ARE BUSINESSES READY?
18/08/2025In the first six months of 2025, Vietnam’s tea exports declined in both volume and value compared to the same period last year. However, recovery opportunities remain wide open thanks to rising demand in several major markets.
1. Tea Exports Slightly Declined
In the first six months of 2025, Vietnam’s tea exports recorded a slight decrease in both volume and value:
- Export volume reached 57.9 thousand tons, down 6.6% year-on-year.
- Export value totaled USD 97 million, down 8.4% year-on-year.
- Major export markets included Pakistan, China, and Taiwan.
According to Trade Opportunities magazine, Export categories were concentrated mainly on black tea and green tea, which accounted for 95.4% of total export volume in the first five months of the year. Specifically:
- Black tea: 22.8 thousand tons, worth USD 29.7 million – up 2.2% in volume and 1.4% in value compared to the same period of 2024.
- Green tea: 21.6 thousand tons, worth USD 40.3 million – down 8.5% in volume and 8% in value.
During the first five months of 2025, Pakistan remained Vietnam’s largest tea export market, importing 13.8 thousand tons worth USD 26.1 million, up 13.7% in volume and 7.1% in value. This is a stable market that favors strong-flavored teas at competitive prices.
Next was China, importing 4.9 thousand tons worth USD 7.7 million, up 4.6% in volume and 14.6% in value. Taiwan ranked third with 4.6 thousand tons worth USD 7.9 million. Other notable markets included Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Russia, the US, Iran, and Iraq.
2. Recovery Outlook
Although the first half of the year fell short of expectations, Vietnam’s tea industry still holds bright prospects in the second half of 2025 thanks to:
- Rising demand in major markets such as the US, India, and Iraq.
- The ongoing efforts of domestic producers and processors to improve export quality standards.
