LOW-EMISSION RICE OFFICIALLY LAUNCHED: A GREEN BOOST FOR VIETNAM’S RICE INDUSTRY

In 2025, Vietnam’s rice sector marks a groundbreaking milestone: the successful production of the world’s first low-emission rice.

As part of the “One Million Hectares of High-Quality, Low-Emission Rice in the Mekong Delta” program, the first 500 tons of low-emission rice have been exported to Japan at a price of USD 820/ton.

This initiative stems from the Prime Minister’s approved scheme titled:
“Sustainable Development of One Million Hectares of High-Quality, Low-Emission Rice Associated with Green Growth in the Mekong Delta by 2030”, issued at the end of 2023. The scheme aims to ensure long-term sustainability for Vietnam’s rice sector, improve farmer incomes, and significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Low-emission rice is expected to reshape the global rice market, reinforcing the reputation and competitiveness of Vietnamese rice and agri-products on the international stage.
